Woman of Faith

In the bible there is a story about a woman named Naomi. Naomi was a wife and a mother of two sons. Eventually her sons grew older, fell in love and were married. Life progressed normally and they lived together for many years.

Over time several tragedies took place in Naomi's life. Her husband died and not long after that both of her sons passed away as well. This devastated Naomi and her daughter-in-laws. They were together but left alone with no one to care for them.

Naomi was a woman of great faith, she decided to return home, to the land of Judah. For Naomi Judah was the place of her beginnings, the place of her people and the place of her God. Before she left she decided to let her daughter-in-laws return home to their people. It was a tough decision for them. Naomi thought they would have a better chance for a new life if they each returned to their hometown's.

Naomi didn't expect it but one of her daughter-in-laws, Ruth, refused to leave her side and traveled to the land of Judah with her. Naomi was saddened because her once full life was now empty. But despite feeling as though she was being afflicted by the Lord, she remained strong in her faith.

Naomi and Ruth remained together helping one another the best they could. Ruth worked long days just to provide food for them to eat. And because of her relationship with Naomi, Ruth met and married one of Naomi's wealthy kinsmen, Boaz. Eventually getting married to him and starting a family.

In the end, Naomi's life became full again. She spent her last years apart of a family. With Ruth, Boaz and their son that she cared for as if he were her own. God blessed her because she remained faithful even after she appeared to lose everything. She could've been defeated but she decided to remain in faith and return home to her God. And God remained with her and made sure she was taken care of.

Naomi is a wonderful example of a woman of great faith, a wonderful mother and a woman of God. Let her be an example to all of you today as we celebrate Mother's Day. Stay faithful, stay steadfast and know that God is always with you, just like He was for Naomi.

Naomi's story is in the book of Ruth chapters 1-4
