This season that we are in, the 'Easter' season, is the most significant time of year for believers in Christ. This season represents the very foundation of the Christian faith. The importance of this holiday should not be taken lightly by anyone, especially those who believe in Christ. This time of year is to celebrate why we are, who we are, why we believe what we believe and our reasons for being a Christian.
Despite what we see advertised on TV and in spite of everything the world has conditioned us to believe this holiday is not about having fun with the kids. Over time the world has changed the meaning of Easter. It is now filled with the images of the Easter bunny, colored eggs and candies. Baskets full of treats, gatherings with friends and family, huge meals and desserts. All this goes on in many homes without the mention of Jesus.
This reason for this season is the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. We all know that Jesus lived a sinless life. A life full of teaching God's word, performing miracles and healing those around him. Which made his death, especially the way that he died all the more senseless and unfair. He did not deserve the punishment, torture and ridicule that he received.
The only consolation in any of this is to know the reason why God allowed this to happen to him. The whole reason of why this had to happen. Which is the same reason why we believe and live the way that way that we do. God allowed those things to happen to Jesus, his only son, why? Because of how much he loves us.
The senseless death of Jesus gives us the right, the chance and the opportunity for eternal life with God. The pointless pain and suffering of Jesus actually wasn't pointless. He suffered and died for us, He took on this burden for our sins. So that we could be forgiven for all the wrongs that we have done. He was our sacrificial lamb.... innocent, without blemish. His blood cleanses us of all our sins. It is God's gift to us, all we have to do is accept it.
So, during this time of year, take the time to remember Jesus and his sacrifice. But don't be too sad because yes he died here on earth, but he is not dead. God raised him up after he was placed in the grave. His resurrection is proof to us, that all believers will be resurrected one day. This is our hope, our goal and the reason behind everything we do.
And remember that this is all because God loves us so much.
Ephesians 1:2020Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
1 Corinthians 6:1414And God hath both raised up the LORD, and will also raise up us by his own power.
1 Peter 1:2121Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
Romans 6:44Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Romans 8:3434Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
